Cheyenne Senior Photos
When Jimmy’s mom first got in touch with me about senior photos, she told me about a football player who loves the mountains around his Curt Gowdy home and who wanted to somehow highlight his love of water sports, football, cars and his Chevy Blazer. Outdoor spaces in Wyoming offer so many options for Cheyenne senior photos.
But I have to admit, I wasn’t sure if we’d end up highlighting all of those things during the session. It’s not that I wouldn’t be willing to; I just wasn’t sure if a senior boy would spend that much time getting his photo taken. When it comes to senior guys, it seems mom is typically a lot more excited about senior photos than the senior is. For Jimmy, I made sure we allotted plenty of time to highlight all of his interests. But I have to admit, I wasn’t expecting him to have quite as much enthusiasm for his photos as his mom did.
I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived. This articulate, easy-going young man has a zest for life that makes him so much more than what meets the eye. Jimmy is mature beyond his years. He has a practical work ethic that makes him successful at pretty much anything he tries.
As I was jogging my memory about his football accolades for this post, I came across an article from the Wyoming Tribune Eagle by Jeremiah Jonhke. When Jimmy was little, instead of using his birthday money from his grandma to buy legos, he saved up for years to buy a Camero. And while you might think that was just a little pipe dream for a young boy, he actually bought it when he was in sixth grade! He and his dad worked together to restore the ’67 Camero you will see in his senior photos.
This All State Lineman for Cheyenne Central High School has made long-term goal setting a muscle-memory. When I chatted with him about potential college plans, he’d already set a road map out for himself for eventual dental school. He seemed to see beyond the short term of high school and college sports with an intuitive commitment to balance and hard work in his life. And as successful as he’s already been in life, he has a surprising self awareness and humility about him.
He’s also just the nicest kid. While his mom might have still been more excited about his photos than he was, he knew how important these photos were to her. It became completely apparent to me that Jimmy was going to do everything in his power to make sure she was happy.
I never could have anticipated how much fun I would end up having with this amazing family. It ended with a serendipitous adventure that none of us could have predicted.
Jimmy spends much of his summers wake surfing on the lake. He was a little disappointed that the family boat was in need of repair at the time of his session. We ended up taking his surf board to the lake, planning on photographing it at the dock and with his car.
While we were doing those photos, some family friends from Laramie zoomed by on their boat and ended up inviting us all onboard. Jimmy got his wake surfing photos after all. I actually love that he was in jeans and a t-shirt for them too.
Jimmy and Darla, I really feel like the luckiest photographer in the world to have been the one to take Jimmy’s Cheyenne senior photos. Thank you both so much for everything. I had an absolutely blast with you all! Jimmy, I can’t wait to see where life takes you. Wherever it is, I’m certain it will be filled with adventure, hard work and more incredible stories. Congrats on your senior year!
