Cheyenne, Wyoming Family Photographer | Karlee, Sailor, and Cody {Green River}
When I talked with Karlee about what she had in mind for her photos, she said she was interested in a color scheme to match the colors in her house. After we got off the phone, I was brainstorming ideas that might fall into that scheme and still be workable with her 2 year old daughter. I was in the grocery store one day when the bright green of the Granny Smith apples on display caught my eye. I wanted to somehow incorporate the apples into the shoot. From there, I wanted to find a nice, stark palette that would ensure the color didn’t get lost. After giving Karlee a couple location options in Green River, we decided on the viaduct over the train tracks.
The day was pretty cloudy and gray but, thankfully, dry. I typically don’t like shooting on overcast days. Yes, it’s one of the easiest types of light to get good exposures, but I usually find the light to be really flat on cloudy days. For this particular shoot, though, the overcast skies worked in our favor. One thing about cloudy days is that they really make color pop. We started out on the bridge, where we also got a few of Sailor with balloons for her birthday invitations, then we moved to Expedition Island for the last set.
Sailor was SO much fun. This little gal is full of personality. And isn’t she just as cute as a button?! I think I might just have to make a print for my office of the dandelion series you’ll see below. It never ceases to make my heart happy. Thanks, Karlee, Sailor and Cody! Had a blast with you all!
