CHEYENNE NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHER

ALSO SERVING LARAMIE AND FORT COLLINS

In-Home Newborn Pictures in Fort Collins, Cheyenne, or Laramie

I will never forget those first few weeks after my girls were born. I was simultaneously exhausted, hungry all the time, and yet completely overwhelmed by an urge to make those quiet and not-so-quiet moments last forever. Bringing a baby home changes your family forever. As a Cheyenne newborn photographer for over 13 years, my goal is to help you remember what this time in your life felt like. I offer both in-studio or in-home newborn photos in Cheyenne, Laramie and Fort Collins.

Whether you’re making preparations for baby to come or you’re settling into the first days with your new little one, I can help you preserve those precious first moments when time is so fleeting. I will guide you every step of the way through getting your photos scheduled and setting up a time for us to capture your new baby with your family. Every session I offer includes family photos as well.

I’m Janelle.

My babies are in junior high and high school now. Even though they are older, I remember those days of little sleep when time seemed to be so slow and go by so quickly all at the same time.

I’ve also been the mom who has tried to capture everything myself. Like you, I’m the one usually behind the camera. My girls love looking at photos of themselves while they were tiny, but even more, they want to see photos of the connection we have together. I promise that your kids want to see photos of them in your arms and how you’ve changed through the years too.

Newborn photos are important. But photos of your newborn within the context of the love your family has for each other? Those photos are imperative.

What makes me different than other Cheyenne newborn photographers? Experience and empathy. With over 13 years of experience, I am skilled at working in any lighting situation. As a mom myself, I know how hard this stage of life can be. I will do everything in my power to make this a seamless, stress-free experience.

I’ve also seen so many trends come and go. But classic, timeless photos that highlight your family’s connection will never go out of style. My goal is to capture your family with empathy, artistry and impeccable quality.

I take newborn photos in Cheyenne, Laramie and Fort Collins, Colorado.

IN-HOME NEWBORN PHOTOS

You and your baby are likely most comfortable in the comfort of your own home, but I do have a studio space in downtown Cheyenne if you would rather not use your home for photos. I cannot stress enough that I do not need your home to be immaculately clean or looking like a model home from a magazine. All I need is some window light and a little space. I have taken newborn photos in homes throughout Cheyenne, Laramie and Fort Collins, in everywhere from living rooms to bedrooms to dining rooms. If you are worried about your home working for photos, give me a call and we can chat about spaces that might work.

PICTURES OF YOUR NEWBORN WITH THE ENTIRE FAMILY

Babies are most comfortable being held, so while I will get photos of your new baby swaddled or sleeping by themselves, many photos during a newborn session highlight the entire family. The connection between a newborn and their siblings and parents is part of the magic of having a new baby in the house.

Furry friends are also welcome in photos! If your pet is high energy, you might want to have a plan B for them once we’ve taken a few photos with them.

STEPS TO BOOK YOUR SESSION

WHAT A NEWBORN SESSION LOOKS LIKE…

Once you’ve booked your session, we will set up a time to capture your baby alongside your family. Because we are on your baby’s timeline, most sessions last about 2-3 hours. We will work around your newborn’s sleep schedule and feeding routine to maximize the time we have together. Not all family members need to be present for the entire session. For instance, if Dad needs to get back to work or if your preschooler needs to get back to school, we can take their photos first and they can be on their way. Family photos typically take no more than an hour at most.

PHOTOS OF BABY ALONE

If your baby is super sleepy, I’m happy to grab some photos of him alone, swaddled in a safe place. I don’t put babies in strange poses, as I find them unnatural and lacking in truth. We keep posing natural, allowing baby to safely sleep on his back.

Sidenote: you’ll see oxygen tubes in these newborn photos…..typically I wait until baby is off of oxygen before scheduling newborn pictures, but certain families want to capture babies at as they really are when they first come home. This baby’s doctor gave the family specific permission to take oxygen off for a few photos, and the family wanted a few without the tubes. Safety is always first priority, and I would never ask a family to take out oxygen tubes for photos.

02.

PHOTOS OF THE WHOLE FAMILY

Sibling and family photos are kept simple, light and fun. I know older siblings are adjusting to the newness of a brand new addition to the family, so I keep family pictures involving siblings easy breezy. My goal is to capture the truth of how your family interacts and connects with each other.

HAVE QUESTIONS?

Please feel free to reach out with any questions you might have. Here are a few of frequently asked questions that might be helpful too.

Most of my newborn clients schedule within the first trimester so we can plan for both maternity and newborn photos. I understand that life happens. Please don’t hesitate to reach out and check availability, especially if you are having a winter baby, which is my less busy time.

Absolutely! I can usually get newborns in on weekdays throughout the year, even if baby is already here.

Although every mama is different, I typically take maternity photos between weeks 30-35, when moms are usually showing and not too close to their due dates.

Do NOT deep clean your house for me!! I live with two tweens, two dogs and a very busy husband. I am not judging you, and I promise your dust will not show up in photos. All I really need is a room with window light that isn’t super cluttered. If you want your nursery photographed, have it arranged the way you want it photographed, but don’t stress if there are a few things out of place. We can tuck things into closets or out of view briefly to grab those photos.

Janelle was absolutely fantastic. She was very responsive when we were in a scramble to get newborn photos when our original photographer did not work out. She got back to us so quickly. The quality of the photos were stunning and we really enjoyed our experience with her. Janelle is so lovely, personable and professional.

THE DETAILS

YOUR INVESTMENT

Having a newborn is challenging. It is a time in your life when everything is changing quickly. Somehow, one tiny human can make us feel simultaneously overjoyed and exhausted. I’m not one to tell you to “enjoy every moment.” I have to be honest; as a mom of two girls of my own, not every moment is enjoyable. But as I reflect back on the fleeting time when they were tiny, I want to remember it all. I want to remember how their entire body could curl up between my chin and waist, how they were so close to me for so many months that I could lean down and smell the tops of their heads a thousand times a day. I want to think about how their shoulder blades had a soft fuzz that covered them and how they slept with their hands around their faces, just like they did in their ultrasound photos.

Newborn photos are an investment in your memory bank. They are a time capsule to preserve the beginnings of what makes your family unique.
