Colorado Engagement | Horsetooth Reservoir

Kaetlin and Zach’s Colorado engagement session reminded me how much I have missed shooting outside in the mountains. Scheduling a spring engagement in this part of the country is always an adventure. While a spring day in late March sounds lovely, in reality it could show up as a foot of snow. We experienced an epic “bomb cyclone” in Wyoming and Colorado about a week and a half before this shoot.

The morning of the shoot, the forecast predicted rain turning into snow. After much back and forth looking at other options, we ended up taking our chances. I’m so glad we did! A sunny, bluebird day would not have resulted in the same vibrant color and moody skies. I really loved the light we ended up with that night. By scheduling a Colorado engagement session, we were able to avoid some of the spring Wyoming wind. It was warmer than it would have been in Wyoming, but these two gracefully dealt with some chilly temps.

Later this summer, Kaitlyn and Zach are getting married at the Della Terra Mountain Chateau in Estes Park, and we are SO excited to be heading back to this amazing venue. If you haven’t seen Nicole and Curtis’ beautiful day at that venue, you may want to check that out as well by clicking here. Della Terra was designed extremely thoughtfully and especially with weddings in mind. They really make your day perfect.

Congrats, Kaetlin and Zach! Can’t wait for your big day!
