Laramie Senior Pictures | What to Wear
Downtown Laramie has such an awesome vibe for senior photos. I love starting any senior session with urban photos, but I always jump at the chance to do Laramie senior pictures. When Bella’s mom called last summer, we decided to start in downtown Laramie and move to the mountain areas nearby at Happy Jack for some fall color.
Bella had a few murals in mind that she loved in downtown Laramie, and she did a great job of planning her outfits around the looks she wanted throughout her session. So I thought I’d use her Laramie senior pictures as an example of colors and outfits to choose as you prepare for you senior photos.
Let Color Be Your Guide for Laramie Senior Pictures
If there are certain murals or buildings you love in downtown Laramie, choose outfits that will complement those buildings. I know narrowing down outfit choices can be overwhelming, so let color help you decide. For example, Bella loved the mural with the red chili peppers, so we opted for the light green pants and white top with that location. Anything too bold or colorful would have contrasted too much with that location, but green is a complementary color to red, so her outfit really worked well.
Similarly, navy blue is a great complement to fall yellows and oranges, so Bella’s navy blue dress looked amazing with the fall color in the mountains. Other colors that work well on fall tones are emerald green, burgundy and warm neutrals, like tan, brown or ivory.
And as always, choose outfits that complement your skin tones. For more info on that, I went into a deep dive on color choice here.
Keep Outfits Neutral with Accessories
For Bella’s letter jacket pictures, she opted for a neutral black and white outfit. A simple white tank top or t-shirt under a letter jacket always works well. I would recommend sticking with pants with your letter jacket, just so the seasons appear to match. Those letter jackets are great winter coats, and they’d look silly with shorts.
By the same token, if you have other props or accessories, you might think about keeping outfits simple with those so there isn’t too much happening visually in the frame.
Bring a Mix of Dressy and Casual
Bella did a really nice job of mixing it up with style for her senior pictures. She brought a couple cute dresses and a few different pants plus top options. You’ll notice each of the pants options had a slightly different style. The black and white outfit with the letter jacket and amazing belt was perfect for downtown. She chose a similar vibe with her green pants, but made sure she differentiated the two with different pant cuts and by changing up her shoes; chucks for the first outfit and Doc Martens with the green pants. Can we just take a minute to talk about those white Doc Martens, please? I feel like I’m reliving my 90’s high school days in all the best ways possible! But we never had white Docs. Those bring Docs to a whole new fabulous level.
For Bella, we opted to save dressy clothes for the mountain shots, but another option would be to go super dressy for downtown photos. The contrast of dressy clothes and heels against the grit of downtown alleys can be really striking too.
