2019 Year In Review | Wyoming & Northern Colorado Wedding Photographer
This last year was a whirlwind for me, in so many ways. Our wedding season seems to start earlier and end later every year, and yet we still miss weddings in the off-season. Being photographers in Wyoming means our shooting season is usually very compact. We love them so much that they have become part of our fiber, and it’s hard to be away from them in winter months. We were honored to work with the most amazing couples and vendors in 2019.
For me, 2019 began and ended with small, incredible weddings at the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens. Throughout the rest of the spring, summer and fall, Liz and I traveled everywhere from Evanston to the Black Hills to Brush Creek Ranch, from Jackson and Pinedale to Estes Park, and spent a lot of time photographing weddings right here at home in Cheyenne and Laramie. We squeezed in a styled shoot for Rocky Mountain Bride Wyoming right before the Fourth of July, along with multiple sessions of food, people, and spaces for the newly opened Metropolitan here in Cheyenne (see those shoots here). Somehow, through it all, Liz didn’t leave me on the side of the road somewhere, completely frustrated with my bad habit of cramming too much into the calendar. Which is good, because next year, we somehow have to pack all of our gear onto a plane together to get to the Oregon coast for our first destination wedding.
Add all of that beauty and love into the mix of life, and I guess this is how I ended up writing this closer to February than New Year’s Day. Just to name a few…I threw a giant fundraiser party for my husband’s 40th, hosted a Jalan Crossland living room concert, helped build a yoga studio at our West Edge property, and decided to add an equally rambunctious and lovable puppy to our already chaotic lives. Long story short, it’s been a doozy, and this girl is tired just thinking about it all.
Where I’m Headed in 2020:
Learning to say “no,” for the health of both my family and my business is an on-going process. In order to continue providing quality product for my clients, I need to abide by professional boundaries. I was disappointed in 2019 by organizations and groups that talk about empowering women and then take advantage of them by their actions and decisions. In 2020, I’ll be working more to lift up entrepreneurs and particularly, female creatives, through my work and words.
So I guess if there’s one overarching theme for me as I embark on 2020, it’s truth. I will own that I am a truth-teller. I will continue to tell the truth in my images and in my life. And when I feel like I am wavering from that truth, I will adjust to get back on course. Photography has always been a truth-telling medium for me. I’ll be using it more to tell stories that lift entrepreneurs up in our state.
This year, we had weddings with goats, feathers, full moons, rooftop kisses, glow sticks and rad cars. But most importantly, we had weddings with people who let us into their worlds enough to tell the beautiful truth about them and the stories of their days. For that, we thank you, from the bottom of our hearts. Getting to spend this last year documenting some of the happiest moments in my clients’ lives helped me find joy in the midst of a somewhat rocky year. I love what I do. Thank you to each of you for giving me the gift of getting to do what I love. Scroll to the end of this post is you’d like to see our year-end video.
I love being a Wyoming wedding photographer, but at times it means significant travel across the state. Our 2020 weddings are shaping to be all over the state, and our calendar is filling up super fast. Please get in touch soon to book a date.
