Black Hills Wedding Photographer | Jessica + Josh
I couldn’t have been more thrilled to receive a phone call from Josh about a Black Hills wedding last season. I love this area of the country, and my family and I had spent a week there the summer prior, not far from where this wedding was to take place. The Black Hills are surprisingly close to Cheyenne, making a weekend camping trip there a doable option. And while I love shooting weddings in Wyoming, road trips around the Rocky Mountain region make me very happy. See other road trips we took last season by going to our Year in Review post here.
Jessica and Josh were married at Jessica’s parents house on Gold Valley Ranch, where she grew up. It was a gorgeous spot for a wedding, as you’ll see below. It also happens to be where General Custer set up camp. While Jessica got ready in the bedroom she grew up in, Josh and his crew got ready at the Kleeman House in Custer. If you’re getting married in the Black Hills, the Kleeman House is a perfect groomsmen spot and to house your out of town guests. Jessica and Josh also held their rehearsal dinner there the night before.
There must a reason the Black Hills are so green. We had quite a bit of rain throughout the day, requiring us to adjust photo timing a bit. This was a prime example of why we build some flexibility into your photo schedule. When all events are held outdoors, it becomes especially important that you have flexibility in your timeline.
We loved getting to document this lovely couple’s Black Hills wedding. Jessica and Josh have such an amazing connection, and we really loved working with them and their families. Another thing that we really, really loved about last season….live bands at receptions. Seth Walker was AMAZING. Go check out this New Orleans musician.
