Vedauwoo Fall Engagement
I know you’re all looking outside and probably seeing snow and ice, but if this week needs anything, it’s sunshine and color. Also, if you’re contemplating a fall engagement session, this is your reminder to get it booked now (maybe yesterday?). Looking back at Erin and Chris’ Vedauwoo fall engagement session makes me feel a little warmer on this chilly day. I hope it does the same for you.
Remember when the light felt warm and full of hope? When the smell of the breeze reminded you of campfires and the kind of change that was welcome after a hot summer? Winter feels so long this year, and I know we haven’t even gotten into our “second winter” that comes during the time others call “spring.”
Looking ahead at my calendar for the upcoming summer and fall seasons, I realized that September is nearly full already. We took this Vedauwoo fall engagement session in late September and early October. I wish I could have four Septembers. It’s by far my favorite month.
Erin and Chris opted to have their Vedauwoo engagement session in the fall near Chris’ family ranch. This absolutely stunning area between Cheyenne and Laramie offers some of the best fall color in the area. Later, we went to his grandmother’s ranch house and took photos of the amazing barn you’ll see below. We even had a few furry friends join us.
I cannot wait for Erin and Chris’ big day next summer. They plan to get married on the Eisle Ranch at the soon-to-be Iron & Ivory Venue.
Quick Tips to Steal from This Session
Planning Outfits for Fall Color – Neutrals, Complementary Colors & Western Attire
Erin did a great job planning outfits for this session. The yellows and oranges of fall are gorgeous but can be a little intense, so she based her first outfit on a strong neutral. The ivory dress she chose had the perfect western flair she was going for.
She also put Chris in a color that perfectly complemented the intense yellow of the aspens – blue. I love that Chris’s shirt had hints of turquoise in it to complement her amazing jewelry and the details on her cowboy boots.
Speaking of cowboys, you’ll notice both Erin and Chris’s hats fit well and didn’t fall so low on their foreheads to prevent light from hitting their eyes. Make sure any hats you wear fit well.
Erin based her second outfit around an amazing barn on Chris’s family property. I absolutely loved her wool jacket. It tied in the blues again but added in red and orange, which is another perfect complementary fall color. Also, her hat for that outfit is on fire.
Meaningful Props
I’ll be honest, I’m not a fan of props, but here and there, props can really add to a session. The key is making them meaningful and blending them into the right moment. You’ll notice in between outfits below, we used a blue saddle blanket. This blanket was hand crafted by her dad. It provided the perfect transition from Erin’s first outfit to her second and gave us an opportunity for Erin and Chris to cuddle in close for a gorgeous sky shot.
